What Are  Pine Nuts?

Pine Nuts is actually a misnomer, as these nuts are actually classified as seeds, harvested from none other than pine cones.

They are small, round and delicate and light in colour. They have the distinct fragrance and flavour of pine, and you have likely eaten them before, as they are an essential ingredient in pesto's. In fact, it's their inclusion in pesto's for which they are most well known!

Why Should I Get Pine Nuts?

Pine or cedar nuts contain essential fatty acid (omega-6 fat) and pinolenic acid.

Likewise in almonds, pines too are an excellent source of vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant, containing about 9. 33 mg per 100 g (about 62% of RDA). Pine nuts are an excellent source of B-complex group of vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) and folates. Furthermore, pine nuts contain healthy amounts of essential minerals like manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium.

Pine nuts have become extremely popular in recent years & are used as a tasty addition to salads & dressings, as mentioned before, including pesto.  They are often added to meat, fish, & vegetable dishes.
