Citric acid, food grade (anhydrous) – the sour pantry staple for jam setting, sherbet, bath bombs and naturally descaling kettles, in packs from 500g to 25kg.
Citric acid occurs naturally in citrus fruits, and this food grade anhydrous powder is suitable for consumption as well as household use. In the kitchen it sharpens flavours and helps jams and preserves keep and set; around the home it dissolves limescale and rinses away without odour or residue. Handy substitution: 1/4 tsp of citric acid stands in for 1 tbsp of lemon juice.
Best for
- Jam and marmalade making – aids setting and preservation
- Homemade sherbet, sour sweets and salad dressings
- Bath bombs – one part citric acid to two parts Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda)
- Descaling kettles and coffee machines without harsh chemicals
